Dátil MFE
The breeding of Pearl horses presents a very specific genetic condition: for a horse to express the double Pearl coat phenotype, it must be homozygous for the Pearl gene, meaning it carries two copies of the Pearl dilution.
Horses carrying only one copy of the Pearl gene do not express the double Pearl coat and act solely as genetic carriers.
Once the double Pearl coat reappeared within the Purebred Spanish breed, as the result of the coincidence of two Pearl alleles, selection became almost exclusively focused on coat-to-coat breeding, with the aim of preserving its visible expression.
Unlike other diluted coats, such as palomino or buckskin, which require only one copy of the cream dilution gene and allow continuous access to basic coat colours, Pearl horses gradually became isolated from the broader genetic pool of the Purebred Spanish breed.
This isolation reduced genetic diversity and limited the incorporation of new morphological and functional qualities, creating a true genetic bottleneck.
With the aim of reversing this situation, Yeguada Jon y Linde has initiated a long-term genetic improvement and diversification programme, reopening Pearl bloodlines to the full genetic heritage of the Purebred Spanish Horse.
This is a long-term, ongoing programme. Each year, we deliberately introduce new bloodlines, keeping the genetic base open and avoiding any form of isolation
Within this process, we make use of carefully selected genetic improvers:
– Dátil de María Fernanda de la Escalera, son of Duiker Mor and Pinturera LXXIII.
– The stallion Poeta de Susaeta, son of elite stallion Cacique IX, by Ermitaño III, and out of Editora XIV.
As part of this programme, we have also incorporated a truly unique and exclusive filly: Ilusa MFE, direct daughter of Panadera LVIII and Dátil MFE.
Potra Ilusa de María Fernanda de la Escalera.
Panadera LVIII, from Yeguada MFE, is the most awarded Purebred Spanish mare in history. She accumulated an extraordinary number of national and international titles, standing out for her morphology and quality of movement.
With more than 16 titles obtained at SICAB, the World Championship of the Purebred Spanish Horse, she remained year after year among the best Purebred Spanish horses in the world.
A unique and exceptional career.
With Ilusa MFE, we also wish to highlight the fundamental importance of maternal lines and the essential role of mares in genetic progress.
Excellence is achieved through intention, selection, and time.
